The Governor of Osun State, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola on Thursday presented the State’s budget for 2018 fiscal year to the tune of N1173, 980, 083, 007.
The budget, which was titled the budget of “Enduring Legacy” has N85bn as recurrent expenditure while N88bn was budgeted as capital expenditure.
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Najeem Salam, who read down the breakdown of the budget at the floor of the house eulogised Governor Aregbesola for his “undaunted spirit and creativity “.
Salam explained that the presentation of the 2018 budget was significant being the last time the Governor will perform such an exercise as the head of the executive.
He described the “cordial relationship” between the parliament and the executive in the state as a great opportunity to transform the state for the benefit of the masses.
Najeem however stressed that the paucity of funds in the state has practically affected the well-being of the lawmakers, and not only the civil servants.
He opined that no single member of the house has an official car, which according to him was the sacrifice members of the legislature must make as part of their own contribution to the state.
Governor Aregbesola in his address said the recurrent expenditure for the 2018 fiscal year was 49% higher than that of the 2017, while the capital expenditure was 51% higher.
Aregbesola, who commended the legislature for their support to his administration noted that history would never forget their sacrifice and commitment.
