Acting President Professor Yemi Osinbajo marks his 60th birthday today.

Although the professor of law has been inundated with birthday wishes by politicians and ordinary Nigerians, the day will be remarkably marked in all simplicity. Prayers yes. But do not expect a lavish state ball.

Nothing demonstrates better how the Acting President will want to mark his day than the card displayed on his Facebook and Twitter Pages. It is simple and bears a simple message that defines the Professor: ‘happy Cheers to an exceptional man, Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN”.

Yemi Osinbajo was born on 8 March 1957 at Creek Hospital in Lagos.

He was educated at Corona Primary School and Igbobi College, all in Lagos.

He studied law at the University of Lagos between 1975 and 1978, bagging LLB and thereafter attended the Law School.  From 1979–1980, Osinbajo served the compulsory one year youth service as a legal officer with Bendel Development and Planning Authority (BDPA), in the old Bendel state.

In 1981, he got the Masters in Law after attending the London School of Economics and came home for a career of teaching at the University of Lagos.

From 1983 to 1986, he was Senior lecturer  of Law at the University of Lagos and became a professor in 1997 when he was just 30.

From 1988 to 1992, he also served as an Adviser  to the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Prince Bola Ajibola.

In 1999, Osinbajo began a life in politics after being appointed attorney-general and justice commissioner of Lagos State by Governor Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He served for eight years and effected many reforms in the Lagos judiciary that were copied by both the Federal and state governments.

Osinbajo returned to teaching in 2007, but at the same time, set up his own chambers, Simmons Cooper Partners, where he was a senior partner.

With the formation of the All Progressives Congress, Osinbajo was among the Think Tank that drew up the party’s programme,”Roadmap to a New Nigeria”, which he is now implementing as acting president.

Osinbajo’s marriage to Dolapo, grand daughter of the revered Nigerian political leader, Obafemi Awolowo, is blessed with three children.

The Nigerian acting president is a deeply religious man and his birthday today will be a celebration of his God and Jesus.

Osinbajo, as a member of the Redeemed Church of God was  the Pastor in charge of the Lagos Province 48, Olive Tree provincial headquarters parish, Ikoyi before his inauguration into office as the Vice President of Nigeria.

He still insists that he remains the pastor-in-charge of the said province and he is only on loan to the Federal Government.
