To commemorate breast cancer awareness month, Rotary Club of Lagos Island has organized “Rotopink Walkathon”, a walk against breast cancer to sensitise women of the prevalence of breast cancer at Banana Island, Lagos.
The awareness walk, which commenced at 7:00am, was led by the president of the club, Vinod Garg. Rotarians from other clubs, including a Past District Governor, Dr. Kamaru Omotosho, and his wife, Susan, as well as some children from Banana Island also participated in the walk.
Addressing participants before the walk, Dr. (Mrs.) Susan Omotosho, decried the prevalence of breast cancer, which she described as very deadly. “Detection at an early stage can be treated successfully before it gets worse,” she said.
According to Garg, the club came into existence about five months ago and has been making an impact on the lives of residents in the neighbourhood.
“On October 1, our club organized a family health camp where more than a hundred people were tested free after which medical advice and drugs were provided. The walk is the second project in addition to collaborating with our mother club, the Rotary Club of Lagos Palmgrove Estate, in the execution of their projects.
